I shared the cost of a whole box of the Fleer trading cards with Nikki recently. You may be interested in our findings.
Cost: 48 pounds from Nostalgia and Comics in Birmingham. There are 36 packs in a box. 8 cards per pack (but see below).
One packet in the box only had 4 cards in it. Caveat emptor! If you are buying individual packets, give them a squeeze to check they feel thick enough.
The shuffle of cards seems very good. We got 1 complete set of the basic 118 cards, and 1 near set with just 3 cards missing. We got two sets of the checklist, which is spread over two cards.
The basic cards are grouped into themes: Characters, Episodes, Ships, Places/Groups, Quiz Questions
There are no episode cards for the Last 4 of season 2. So no spoilers for the Americans, tho' you will find Lyta with two different hairstyles ;-)
There is a picture of JMS on the card for the Great Maker :-)
The space gallery cards are supposed to occur in 1 in 4 packs, we got 7 different ones out of a possible 8, with 3 duplicates.
The foil cards are supposed to occur in 1 in 6 packets, we got 7 different ones out of a possible 8, with 2 duplicates.
Holograms are supposed to be 1 in 12, we got 3 different ones.
On the whole the pictures are good, perhaps a bit dark. A couple of the ship cards are blurred, and some of the cards with quiz questions on have very similar pictures to other cards in the set.
There's no character card for Bester :-(, tho' he does appear on other cards.
We are storing our cards in Ultra Pro pages, which have 9 pockets arranged 3 x 3. These pages are 20p each from Dungeons & Starships in Brum. The only drawback with these pages is they are 3 hole punched for American binders, they do not fit in UK 2 ring binders.
Addendum
We have now found a couple of sources for American 3 ring binders. First, there are Magic: The Gathering binders that you should be able to get from any store that sells Magic. A good way to find such a store is to look at my CCG Stores in Europe list. Binders cost around 10 pounds.
A cheaper solution is to find an old computer manual for an American operating system that is no longer needed. These are often just the right size, with three rings. Examples I know will work for sure are Hewlett Packard, Sun and Digital.
Another cheap source of American-style 3 ring binders is the many part-work magazines that you see on sale every January with a binder attached.
